About God's Country Resort

About Us

In the 1980's Joe Lawler and his son Ken developed a series of subdivisions when they had the opportunity of buying acreage in the rear along the Soda Lake Wildlife Management Area where they built a family camphouse known "The Lawler Lodge."  In 2009 Joe's wife passed away and he moved to the Lodge where he lived until 2019 when he passed away.  In 2020, Joe's son Danny and his wife Jackelyn, who already owned the Gavel Falls Campground nearby purchased the acreage from his brothers David and Ken and decided to build an upscale luxury campground like no other in Louisiana.

Build it and they will come!

The Danny & Jacky Lawler family already sat the standards for luxury camping in the Shreveport area, but the Lawler Family had a vision of creating a beautiful one of a kind campground that could not be found anywhere in the Ark-La-Tex.  What should we call it?  No other name bests describes the beautiful scenic views than God's Country Mountain View Campground.  In August 2020, the Lawler's began constructing concrete pads to handle the motorhomes, campers and other RV's that will surely want to flock to the area to enjoy one of Louisiana's treasured landscapes where arrowheads can routinely be found along with deer grazing in the fields down below.  In October 2021, the Lawler's will begin to construct small cabins along the cliffside that will also offer a view that cannot be found anywhere in the area.  Our vision is to offer the best privately operated campground facility in the state where our guests can enjoy nature, take a hike into the Soda Lake Wildlife Management Area.  While we do not allow hunting inside our 53+ acre campground, bow hunting is allowed inside the Soda Lake Wildlife Management Area down below (with restrictions).  Registered guests can enjoy fishing our pond or taking a trip down the Twelve Mile Bayou.  God's Country serves as the east campus, but will always be known as the "God's Country" campus to us, and Gavel Falls became the West Campground and will serve as home to the KOA Store to serve both campuses.
